Another Red Carpet: BAFTA Awards

I've really been enjoying this year's awards ceremonies, particularly for the red carpet fashion. Today the BAFTA (British Academy of Film & Television Arts) Awards were held in London, England, and although they weren't televised here in Canada, the good old interwebs kept us up to date. Check out my faves below (click on photos to enlarge and zoom in for details).

Amy Adams in Lanvin.
Simple, sleek, stunning!

Reese Witherspoon in Stella McCartney.
The deep purple seems appropriate for British royalty.

Julianne Moore in Tom Ford.
She looks amazing in this dress, and it's appropriate for the cold London temps.

Jenna Coleman in ??
I don't know her, but she looks beautiful, and this dress is possibly my favourite.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw in Prada.
This shade of pale lavender gets me every time.

For a change, I'm including the gents in this little fashion roundup, since they really brought their fashion A-Game to the BAFTA Awards red carpet.

Michael Keaton.
Love the charcoal grey jacket, and check out those velvet loafers.

Benedict Cumberbatch with fiancee Sophie Hunter, both in Alexander McQueen.
All class.

Eddie Redmayne in Giorgio Armani with wife Hannah Bagshawe in Valentino.
Navy velvet, oh yeah!

David Beckham in Tom Ford.
He's not an actor, so I'm not sure why he's there, but I'm gonna let it slide...

Douglas Booth.
I don't know him, but I like that he took a minty green velvet fashion risk.

Colour Trends at the Golden Globes

Sunday night's Golden Globes were a great way to kick off the Hollywood awards season. My favourite part of the evening are the red carpet arrivals, where celebrities come to strut their stuff in style. There was much less black on the red carpet than in years past, and more fabulous colour!!. Two of the hottest trends: Green and Pink (my current colour crush).

See which stars were Glamorous in Green and which looked Pretty in Pink:

Angelina Jolie in Versace

Elisabeth Moss in Donna Karan

Mila Kunis in Vera Wang

Catherine Zeta-Jones in Monique Lhuillier

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta

Natalie Portman in Viktor & Rolf

Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang

My Vote for Best Dressed:
Claire Danes in Calvin Klein Collection

Cold Shoulders at the Golden Globes

Celebrity watching may seem silly to some, but watching the Golden Globes pre-show is required research for those in the fashion industry. If you notice a trend walking down the red carpet today, I guarantee you'll see it walking down the street in under 6 months.

A strong trend at this year's Golden Globes was the asymmetrical, or one-shoulder gown. I like this style for one main reason: the shoulder strap keeps the dress in place, thereby eliminating the constant "up-tugging" which afflicts all strapless gown wearers. These women all looked quite beautiful:

Jennifer Aniston
Gown: Valentino
Jewels: Fred Leighton
Gets my vote for Best Dress!!

Reese Witherspoon
Gown: Giorgio Armani Prive
Jewels: Cartier
(Gets my vote for First Runner Up)

Marion Cotillard

Gown: Christian Dior
Jewels: Chopard

Kate Winslet
Gown: Yves Saint Laurent
Jewels: Tiffany

Drew Barrymore
Gown: Atelier Versace
Jewels: Lorraine Schwartz

Anna Kendrick

Gown: Marchesa
Jewels: Cartier

Amy Poehler
Gown: Jay Godfrey
Jewels: Chopard

Maggie Gyllenhaal
Gown: RM by Roland Mouret
Jewels: Bulgari
