Special Moments

I couldn't let such a joyous occasion pass without a quick post about yesterday's Royal Wedding. As I did nearly 30 years ago for Charles and Diana's wedding, I woke at 5 am to witness the marriage of their son Prince William to Catherine Middleton. It was a joyous occasion, a beautiful wedding, and a truly global experience.

With such fanfare surrounding the event, it was nice to see the couple share a few of their own special moments. My favourite part of the ceremony came as Catherine turned to William with a smile and he responded with a slightly raised eyebrow and a smirk, as the Right Reverend Richard Chartres spoke: "You have both made your decision today...I will..."

Congratulations to the newlyweds!!

Apres LA

The week following a buying trip is always chaotic at the office, so forgive me for such a prolonged absence from the blog. Although I've been back for several days, the suitcase sat in the kitchen until just a few hours ago, and I finally feel like I'm getting my groove back.

Tonight I also found the time to put together a DIY project for the store. I created an accessory display by wrapping inexpensive fabric ($3) around a square cork board ($10). Then I hung necklaces from colourful straight pins ($1).

Voila! Instant display!!

And they're all so pretty!!

Bloggers Give Back: The George Herman House Project

I'm excited to be a part of Bloggers Give Back, a volunteer initiative being taken on by bloggers, With this project, we hope to transform the backyard of George Herman House from cold and uninviting environment to a peaceful and welcoming space. For those of you who are unfamiliar, George Herman House provides holistic programming and supportive housing for women with mental and emotional health issues.

We intend to make the AFTER photos much more appealing!! With the generosity of donors and the support of major sponsors (to date: Ikea Canada, Tonic Living, Bona Vista and 101 Trees), we intend to turn this backyard into a peaceful spot to relax on a sunny afternoon. Several of the volunteer bloggers have already completed mood boards for the project, using furniture from Ikea and fabrics from Tonic Living.
