Please feel free to use this floorplan as your guide for visualization purposes:
Here is the pertinent information you will need before casting your vote:
- Flooring throughout the entry, kitchen, dining and living room areas in the new condo will be a dark walnut.
- Kitchen cabinetry will also be walnut surround, with BM Cloud White door fronts.
- The neighbouring dining room will have a glossy white sideboard with glass top table and white chairs (these could be painted & recovered in a new fabric).
- The dining room accent wall will be painted a punchy colour such as marine blue. Ideally, the shade will be chosen from a colour in the rug.
- Living room furniture will include the existing chocolate brown couch, two beige linen slipper chairs and round smoked glass top coffee table.
- A vintage campaign dresser will be used as entertainment unit and painted with a colour also pulled from the rug.
Here are the three contenders:
RUG 1
RUG 1
RUG 2
RUG 3
Let me know in the comments below whether you like, Rug 1, Rug 2, or Rug 3... And if you don't like any of these, you can tell me that too, since there's still time to go back to the drawing board. I really appreciate your feedback on this one, readers!! I never thought this would be soooo difficult :-(
EDIT: Thanks to all of you who voted by leaving a comment here, via twitter or via email. The scrutineers have finished counting the ballots, and the winner is RUG #1 (for those who are really curious, Rug #3 came second, followed by Rug #4 (the nonexistent choice), with Rug #2 bringing up the rear. To find out which rug I chose (if any) you'll have to wait for the big living room reveal coming up in just 2 short months.
I vote rug 1. Rug 2 looks too chess board/ grid for me, and rug 3 is a little bland with your neutral furniture. I really like a punch of colour via rug though, so that's likely influencing my vote!
ReplyDeleteThanks for voting, Jenn, and for your adding your reasons :-)
DeleteI with Rug 2. My reasoning is that the first one is very traditional. Kinda....ho and hum. You have very safe furniture and although I am sure you will dress it up beautifully, the checker pattern in Rug 2 is unexpected and has the colour I think you are going for.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your vote, Dharma :-) This is going to be interesting ;-)
DeleteRug 3! I love that the colour in it is more subtle and the pattern a little less busy while still being detailed and eye catching.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jeanette!
DeleteI like #3 as well. I find the others a bit bossy. I would prefer to see some of the colour in the accent walls and cushions - and there are nice blues and corals you can pull from the rug. It might be the photos, but i don't find the first too have the sofa colour in them while the third seems to be a very nice compliment.
ReplyDeleteGrace,
DeleteYou make some really good points. Thank you for voting!
I love the pattern of #1 but in the photos the colour is a bit loud. I vote for #4: the non-existent rug with the traditional pattern of #1 but more muted colours. Helpful, aren't I?
ReplyDeleteThanks for your honest opinion, Lisa. I still love that rug you found at the estate sale this summer, and it was such a steal to boot!! I wish I had that kind of luck ;-)
DeleteI like #3! I like the colors, and that it's a little more calm-looking. Does that make sense? I think the earthy colors, and the less busy pattern is good for a relaxed room.
ReplyDeleteThanks for voting, @crabigail, your reasoning totally makes sense.
DeleteI like #3 because of its neutral palette you can switch out accessories and pillows easier. You have great taste, look forward to what you decide on!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Heather!! You're making me blush ;-)
DeleteLove the colors of #1 with a traditional feel. # 2 seems more casual/funky with great color and #3 has looks like the undertones may be green and a little subtle. Forgive me, but maybe 1 & 3 are a little Grandma to me. You'll choose wisely and if you don't like it, change it again.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm, so your vote is for...? This is exactly why this is such a difficult decision. Thanks for the vote of confidence!
DeleteTough call! I vote #1 if you pull some colour onto chairs or sofa with cushions. But I really like #3 too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for voting, Sarah. It's a tight race at this point between rug #1 and #3.
DeleteI like #1 best. Oooh...but lisa's suggestion is also good - imaginary rug 4. I feel like 3 is too matchy, and I don't like all the boxes on 2. Good luck with this one :)
ReplyDeleteIt's such a tight race at this point, I'm starting to wonder if #4 might be best. Definitely no clear favourite yet, #1 and #3 are neck and neck.
DeleteI like # 1 the best for a punch of colour and it will give you lots of choice colour wise for accent pieces such as toss cushions a vase etc.
ReplyDeleteMargo on Vancouver island
Thank you, Margo! Rug #1 is definitely the most "fun" of the three with its vibrant colour palette.
Deletemy parents have something close to #1...she's a little loud and divaish...but I like it. She screams hello...look at me.
ReplyDeleteExactly!! And I love #1 for that very reason too, she's beautiful and she knows it ;-)
DeleteI like #3, because I'd rather see the pops of colour come from accessories, pillows, etc., and let the floor blend in....
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carol-Anne!! Trying to imagine the rugs with wall colour and accessories helps to complete the whole picture.
DeleteNot a huge fan of the reds in the first two rugs and I think rug #3 is not punchy enough. Out of the first two, my preference is #1. Or Lisa's #4 option!
ReplyDeleteAmy
I have thought the same, although most of the reds look coral IRL. This race is between #1 and #3, but it's not a runaway decision. Maybe choosing #4 makes the most sense right now. Still confused :-(
DeleteI have to say I'm not too crazy about 2 and 3, so I am back to default at no.1. Sharing similar ideas as Lisa and Heather have suggested, I think I like the pattern of #1 and think it really could add some drama and impact to space, especially with the intense blue wall on the side.
ReplyDeleteI am just not sure if I like the intense and bright colors from #1. So #4 with similar pattern and just a touch more worn (so less vibrant in color) is probably my ideal option for the space. Maybe we need to go shopping Pam!
Thanks for taking a look, Tim. #2 is definitely out of the running at this point, and #1 has slowly taken the lead over #3. I have to admit that I'm starting to lean towards option #4. Now, where do you think we can find that? Please let me know!!
ReplyDeletePam, find another design because these do nothing for the room.
