There's always something special about opening the mailbox to find anything other than bills or flyers inside, but the best is receiving the most recent issue of a favourite magazine. I currently subscribe to Canadian House & Home, Style at Home and Elle Decor, which means that if the timing is right, I receive a new issue almost once a week. Looking to add just one more title to the mix, I have noticed that there aren't many choices left on the newsstands. One of my favourite magazines, Domino, published it's last issue this past March, and I was sad to see its demise since it featured design that was young, hip and accessible. This month, Metropolitan Home announced that it will also be ceasing operations - the December 2009 issue will be the last.
With so many shelter magazines folding, it was a surprising change to hear about a newcomer on the block, Lonny Mag, which launched online October 1st. It won't arrive in the mailbox like a traditional magazine, but you can flip through the virtual pages and even click on items you like to be linked directly to resources. How cool is that? The premier issue features the beach house of former Domino Senior Market Editor Kate Simpson, the country home of Eddie Ross and a Manhattan bachelor pad from interior designer Ron Marvin, among others. It's free to browse, so check out the Fall 2009 edition online now.
